Diaz's career in public service began at Northern State Prison as a Senior Corrections officer. His commitment to service led him to the Newark Police Academy, where he trained and eventually became a police officer. He swiftly moved up the ranks, taking on a significant early role as a unit commander in the Newark Police Major Crimes Criminal Intelligence Division, where he supervised criminal investigations and community safety initiatives.
His leadership was further recognized when he was appointed as the unit head of the New Jersey State Police's Real-Time Crime Center, part of the NJ Regional Operations & Intelligence Center (NJ ROIC). Here, he led personnel from various levels of law enforcement, enhancing statewide safety and intelligence operations.
He achieved a historic milestone by being promoted to Captain in the Newark Police Department, becoming the first Dominican-American in this position within the city. As Captain, he managed the Newark Metro Business Downtown District, coordinating law enforcement efforts to ensure the area's safety and security. He also spearheaded security operations at major Newark venues like the Prudential Center and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, developing and implementing comprehensive risk management policies.
In August 2024, he transitioned to state government, taking up his current role at the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Here, he is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safety and reliability of the state's highway system and public roadways. His career is distinguished by numerous awards, including the FBI Leadership Trilogy Award and a Senate Citation recognizing his significant contributions to public service and law enforcement leadership.
Outside of his extensive career, he remains committed to community service, serving on advisory boards and teaching as an adjunct instructor, where he imparts his knowledge to the next generation.
